1939. Berthold and Lisa Kainz are a happy young married couple who have just arrived at the beach of Ostia, near Rome, where they want to spend their honeymoon, when the beginning war with Poland shocks the world. As a loyal German and as a future senior executive of a metal factory in Munich Berthold breaks off the honeymoon - against Lisa's will – to help Hitler in the fight against the enemies of Germany ...

Back in Munich the marriage suffers because as a senior executive of the metal factory Berthold has almost no time for Lisa.

In the midst of their marital problems bursts Thomas, an old school friend of Berthold, who asks for their help: He is a Jew, who needs to hide till a flight to Switzerland or France is possible. Despite many concerns and reservations they hide him in the basement for the time being, but this does not go unnoticed.

In the next few weeks, Thomas and Lisa fall in love...

The SS and the Air Defense of the Luftwaffe become very interested in Berthold's totally new and revolutionary sequencing and feedback control theory – the SS, because you can move effectively large crowds, the Air Defense, because you can predict with great accuracy the trajectories of aircraft. Berthold has a great career ahead of him.

Gestapo tells Berthold and Lisa that Thomas has killed a Gestapo-officer and is a wanted person.

But this is only the beginning of a chain of seemingly insoluble problems Berthold and Lisa have to face...

 

10 episodes of tribulations of Berthold and Lisa who are forced to take different paths: Berthold goes into hiding, later contacts the Munich underground; Lisa is subjugated to severe Gestapo interrogations and then sent to a concentration camp; the further episodes highlight life and acts of underground fighters, SS-bureaucracy and death trains, the almost impossible survival in concentration camps, Nazi-Germany's final days, the massacre of underground fighters after the failed occupation of a radio station, the Nazi war trials, with Berthold being accused of war crimes. The charges: crimes against humanity, conspiracy...
